LATA POSITION: Hazardous Waste Technician I
Department: Waste Acceptance & Compliance Programs (Carlsbad, NM)
LATA is currently searching for a Hazardous Waste Technician I for the TRU Waste Confirmation group at the WIPP project in Carlsbad, New Mexico. This is a government contract to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) supporting the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP).
The Hazardous Waste Technician performs Level 1 reviews of Radiography/Visual Examination Media and Records using Standard Operating Procedures to ensure the waste shipments to WIPP contain no ignitable, corrosive or reactive waste and the Environmental Protection Agency Hazardous Waste Numbers are allowed by the WIPP Permit. This position requires a minimum of a High School diploma and the ability to obtain Level 1 Radiography/Visual Examination Qualification for Waste Confirmation. For each container selected for confirmation, the Permittees will examine the respective nonconformance report (NCR) documentation to verify NCRs have been dispositioned in accordance with the Permit Attachment C7.
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 0-2 years’ experience in the Environmental field
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, specifically Excel and Word
• Attention to detail and initiative is required.
• Possess excellent writing, verbal communication, and team skills.
• Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain Level II DR/RTR Certification.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as a team and with other individuals and project groups is required.
• Occasional travel is required.
